Visa Services
The Interview
Applicants will be received for interviews the mornings of Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Each applicant should arrive at 8:30 in order to pay the universal $131 U.S. application fee. Applicants who arrive after 9:30 will not be admitted and will need to reschedule. Please note that the $131 fee is not refundable if the visa is denied. If the visa is granted, visa issuance fees are determined on the basis of reciprocity based on nationality. Passports with U.S. visas are generally returned the next day between 14:30 and 16:00 at the Consular Section in Kinshasa or at the Brazzaville Embassy offices on Thursday afternoon between 14:00 and 16:00.
You should bring with you to the interview the following:
- Your passport which must be valid for at least six months after the date you plan to enter the U.S.
- One recent unmounted full-face photograph (roughly two inches square or 50 mm x 50 mm) with the head centered in the frame. Photos may be in either color or black and white, however they must be taken against a white or off-white background showing the applicant directly facing the camera. There are no exceptions to the size and background requirements for photographs.
- The $131 application fee and the required issuance fee based on reciprocity between the U.S. and your country of citizenship.
- Completed Non-Immigrant Visa application form (DS-156). Applicants complete the form online (in French or English) using the website http://evisaforms.state.gov. Once completed, applicants should print and bring the three pages of the form with them on the day of their visa interview. As of November 2006, DS-156 application forms completed by hand, typed or without the third page generated by the website above will not be accepted. Males between the ages of 16 and 45 as well as persons born in or bearing national passports of Iran, North Korea, Cuba, Sudan, Syria and Libya must ALSO fill out the supplementary form DS-157.
- You should also submit documents of your choice justifying the information provided in your application and documenting your financial, familial and social ties to your country of residence. The submission of such documents does not necessarily guarantee that the visa will be issued.
