Farewell to the Congo

March 05, 2008

Brazzaville - Ambassador Robert Weisberg met with the President of the Republic of Congo, Denis Sassou N’Guesso, on March 5, to say farewell and convey his appreciation to the people of the Congo for their hospitality over the past 23 months.

Ambassador Robert Weisberg met with President Denis Sassou N’Guesso on March 5 before his final departure from the Republic of the Congo. The Ambassador and his wife Nergish Weisberg have served in Brazzaville since April 2006, and in that time, they have accomplished a wide array of humanitarian and education projects that will benefit the people of the Congo for many years to come.

Ambassador Weisberg presented a photograph of President Sassou Nguesso with President George W. Bush taken at their meeting in Washington D.C. in August of 2006 and a book highlighting the Ndoki National Park located in the northern portion of the Congo.

President Sassou N’Guesso and the Ambassador chatted amicably about the Ambassador’s work. President Sassou was quick to acknowledge the Ambassador’s ability to generate interest and funds from American oil companies that are operating in the Congo for the recent renovation of two public schools in Brazzaville. The renovation was led by the Ambassador and his wife and included a joint U.S. Navy SEABEES – Congolese Armed Forces effort.
