Resumption of Immigrant Visa (IV) Processing at the Consulate at the American Embassy in Kinshasa

On April 1, 2005, the Consular Section at the American Embassy in Kinshasa resumed processing most categories of immigrant visas (IV). This ended a seven-year suspension of IV processing in Kinshasa due to several closings of the Embassy as a result of the DRC’s civil war. Since 1998, Congolese IV applicants either suspended action on their applications, or made arrangements to have their visas processed at an American Embassy in a nearby country. Starting April 1, 2005, most potential immigrants residing in the Republic of Congo may have their applications processed in Kinshasa.
